A few common questions
Do I need to know Thai already?
No. Begin with Welcome, explore the pictures, and visit Learn Thai Script for a guided introduction to the shapes and sounds. Early lessons use short supported text before asking you to read it yourself.
Is this the natural method?
It is inspired by the natural method: meaningful scenes, short texts, gradual vocabulary and repetition. It also includes explicit script explanations, translations and building exercises. It is not presented as a pure immersion method or as a proven guarantee of fluency.
Is this based on the old Maanii books?
The approachable idea of following characters through everyday Thai life is an inspiration. Read Thai Daily has its own characters, original passages and illustrations. It is not an edition of, or affiliated with, those books.
What languages are supported?
English, German, French and Spanish for the app interface and explanations. The target language is Thai. The website’s current guide is in English.
Do I need a Thai keyboard?
Only for the optional Type activity. The word stays visible so you can practise finding its letters. You can use the rest of the lessons without typing.
Are the voices recordings?
The app uses Apple’s Thai system voices, not recordings copied from a textbook. Available voices and their quality depend on the device. The app offers regular and slower speech.
Does progress sync between devices?
Progress currently saves locally on each device. There is no cross-device progress sync yet.
What happens if a subscription expires?
Phrae and Learn Thai Script remain accessible. Paid chapter progress stays saved for later; access to the paid lessons requires an active subscription again.
How much does it cost?
Phrae and Learn Thai Script are free. Premium pricing is USD $2.99 monthly or $24.99 yearly. See chapters and pricing.
How often are new chapters added?
We add a new chapter every month. New chapters are included in both subscription plans and continue building on the vocabulary from earlier lessons.
